Nothing is lost thanks to the circular economy!
Recovering organic waste from city businesses and transforming it into high-quality compost for the Colombian agricultural sector: this is the ambition of Ciclorgánicos.
Three years ago, in 2019, Jaime, a forestry engineer, his wife Alejandra, and two other employees bought a waste management company. At the time, the smell of the place was foul; today it is bearable. The reason? The compost is 100% mineral and vegetable.
Despite his university degree and experience as a public official in environmental certification, Jaime decided to enroll in the disruptive MBA-ACTEC program offered in Medellín by our partner, Corporación Interactuar, with the aim of acquiring the entrepreneurial mindset necessary to accelerate his business.
Encouraged by his three colleagues, after each plenary and coaching session of the program, he shared what he had learned with them and involved them in the changes that were to be made in Ciclorgánicos’ management. The result after 3 years: the company employs 14 people with social security and receives between 8 and 12 tons of waste per day. The medium-term goal is to create three more plants in the region.
Ciclorgánicos is now an example of a company that promotes decent work in Colombia by ensuring the well-being of its employees. For example, it organizes a family day, offers employees a day off on their birthday, and provides a bonus to each employee at Christmas. In addition, the company is committed to inclusion. Collaborating with the Red Cross, it participates in the reintegration of internally displaced persons into the labor market.
Recently, Jaime was nominated among the candidates for the Famiempresario 2022, an emblematic event organized annually by Interactuar to celebrate Colombian entrepreneurship.
